The Xtreme Football League returns with four games, two each day, Saturday and Sunday. The league folded in 2020 during the COVID-19 shutdowns after five weeks of play. This will be the third time the league will jump-start, initially folding after one season in 2001.
In its previous start, the XFL was owned by WWE chairman and chief executive Vince McMahon but was purchased in 2021 by former WWE wrestler and action star actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and business associates.
The XFL will consist of eight franchises, with three Texas teams in the South Division. The Houston Roughnecks will continue their undefeated run, and as well as the formerly known as the Dallas Renegades will change its name location to Arlington.
The new Texas franchise will be the San Antonio Brahmas. The Brahmas home games will be played in the Alamodome and coached by former Pittsburgh Steeler receiver Hines Ward. In 2019 Ward was head of football development in the Alliance of America Football 2019.
Three teams and the Orlando Guardians are the league’s South Division. The North Division teams are D.C. Defenders, St. Louis BattleHawks, Seattle Sea Dragons, and Vegas Vipers.
The Brahmas will debut against the St. Louis BattleHawks Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Alamodome with tickets as low as $40. All XFL games will be broadcasted on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN+ this weekend.
