WrestleMania weekend kicks off in the Dallas Ft. Worth with Friday Night Smackdown at the American Airlines Arena. The four-day extravaganza starts with the show then followed by the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, in the same arena the main attraction will be the legendary phenom, 35-year legend and Texas native The Undertaker.
After wrestling the territory scenes his first couple of years under several names, Mark Calloway received an opportunity to join World Championship Wrestling for a brief period from 1989-90. He wrestled under the name “Mean Mark” Callous, joining the stable The New Skyscrapers after Sid Vicious suffered a punctured lung from a rib injury.
After the stable dissolved, Callous would join the Dangerous Alliance managed by Paul E. Dangerously. While part of the group, he would defeat Johnny Ace at Capital Punishment and Brian Pillman at Clash of Champions XI: Coastal Crush.
After leaving WCW in 1990 due to failing contract negotiations, he would be contacted by Vince McMahon, the then name WWF and rebranded “Kane The Undertaker.” He was an unnamed partner of “The Million Dollar Team” led by Ted DiBiase and partners The Honky Tonk Man and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and managed by Brother Love. In this match, he dominated their opponent, “The Dream Team,” eliminating Koko B. Ware and Dusty Rhodes before getting counted out.
The Undertaker would have his first WrestleMania match at WrestleMania VII, defeating “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, which led to the beginning of “The Streak,” going 21-0, beating other names like Kane, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair and Triple H.
The streak would finally end at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans in a shocker to former UFC star and returner to WWE Brock Lesner. He would continue his success at the grand stage, adding four more wins and one loss to Roman Reigns to his record ending at 25-2.
His last match was a Boneyard match vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles at WrestleMania XXXVI in a cinematic match. He would win the math by throwing Styles into an empty grave where the tombstone was marked “AJ Styles Rest In Peace 1977-2020.”
In June of 202, in the final episode of The Undertaker: The Last Ride documentary Calloway would announce his retirement from pro wrestling, “At this point in my life and career, I have no desire to get back in the ring. There is nothing left for me to conquer,” Undertaker said.
During his career in the WWE, Undertaker has been four times WWE Champion a World Heavyweight Champion three times, the Hardcore Champion and six times Tag Team Champions. He also won the 2007 Royal Rumble.
Also joining the WWE Hall of Fame this year are three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and IWGP champion Vader. The 11 times tag team champions The Steiner Brothers, Queen Sharmell and the Warrior Award winner Shad Gaspard, who tragically lost his life saving his son Aryeh in 2020 in Venice Beach, California.
